Biography
Dr Munya Saruchera is the Director of the Africa Centre for Inclusive Health Management in the Economic and Management Sciences Faculty at Stellenbosch University. He teaches and supervises postgraduate students and supervises research fellows, and is an Ashoka, SUNRISE and African institute of Public Health Fellow, a Professional Associate with ACCERUS and Associate of the School for Climate Studies at Stellenbosch University. With a PhD in Sociology (Stellenbosch University), Dr Saruchera has more than 30 years of professional work experience in project management; research, monitoring and evaluation; facilitation of social processes; leadership development; social change and critical community development. He has worked for a range of national and international organizations and his own consultancy, Labyrinth Consult, across different sectors and countries in Africa and beyond. Under Labyrinth Consult, Dr Saruchera has undertaken numerous baseline research and pre -mid and end of project impact assessments on anti -child marriage, sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and commercial sex work in southern Africa on behalf of Hivos Southern Africa and Hivos Head Office between 2009-2016. He is published on a range of topics, and his research interests are the sociology of health with interest in corruption and health, social aspects and determinants of health and critical health management. Dr Saruchera currently serves on several boards that include the Africa Centre for Inclusive Health Management, Stellenbosch University Economic and Management Sciences Faculty Transformation Leadership Board, the Collective Leadership Institute of South Africa Board, No Namae Initiative Dialogue, Caregivers Empowerment Network in Africa, Society for AIDS in Africa’s (SAA) ICASA International Steering Committee. He is also a committee member of the SAA ICASA Abstract Mentorship Programme and an editorial board member of the African Journal for AIDS and Infectious Diseases (AJAID)
