Biography

Ms Stirling JX Blunden is a Researcher for the Just Leaders Programme at the Centre for Sexualities, AIDS and Gender. Her work contributes to research, teaching, and community engagement initiatives that aim to foster inclusive university environments and socially just communities. She specialises in Visual Studies theory, Queer Theory and asexuality. She holds three degrees from the University of Pretoria, including a Master’s degree in visual studies. Her Master’s dissertation is titled Examining the Representation of Asexuality in Select Examples of Visual Culture. Her academic work draws on interdisciplinary approaches to asexuality and LGBTQIA+ visual culture, identity, and representation within contemporary society. Her research and teaching interests include visual culture, gender and sexualities, identity formation, LGBTQIA+ identities and the role of media and representation in shaping social narratives.
